Major-General Joaquim José Carvalheira Baptista Veloso

Curriculum Vitae 

Major-General Engaed Joaquim José Carvalheira Baptista Veloso was born in Lisbon in March 11, 1961. He joined the Air Force in 1979, and graduated as Airfield Engineer by the Air Force Academy, he has a Master degree on Civil Engineer by the “Instituto Superior Técnico”. Among several other courses, he graduated on Airfield Pavement Engineer at the United States Air Force Institute of Technology in 1992, and attended NATO Operational Logistics Planning Course in 2007, and NATO Expeditionary Operations Course in 2008.
He has served in the Portuguese Air Force Logistic Command, Infrastructure Directorate since 1990, as Airfield Pavement Section Chief until 1996, as Evaluation Programming and Control Section Chief until 2001, as Department Design Engineer Chief until 2005. On September 2008, he was Deputy Director of Infrastructure Directorate until 2015. He was appointed Director of Infrastructure Directorate on the 30 of June 2015.
In 2000, he assigned to Air Force Academy, as Scientific Department Head of Civil Construction and Structural Engineer. He was Airfield Engineer Course Director and Teacher, until 2005.
In December 2005, he assigned as Assistant Chief of Staff Joint Engineer at Joint Command Lisbon, NATO Operational Command until September 2008. In May 2007 deployed on two NATO Operations: AMIS – African Mission in Sudan and AMISSOM – African Mission in Somalia, as Nato Senior Military Liaison Officer.
During is carrier he awarded eleven commendation’s, and was decorated with Avis Military Order, with four Distinguished Service Medals one Gold and three Silver. The first and second-class Military Merit medal, first class Aeronautical Merit medal, Gold Exemplary Conduct Medal. He was also awarded with Sudan Campaign Medal, and with NATO and AU Campaign Medals.
He was appointed has Director of Department of Postgraduate Studies, in the twentieth two of June 2018. Major-General Engaed Joaquim José Carvalheira Baptista Veloso was promoted to Major-General in the 06 of December 2018, is married, and has two daughters and one grandchild.
