The Internationalization Policy of the Military University Institute (IUM) covers cooperation and cultural, scientific, pedagogical and technical exchanges with similar foreign institutions, particularly from Portuguese speaking countries, European countries and allied countries special emphasis on military and police higher education universities.
The objective of IUM is to develop strategic relationships to enhance cooperation with other international higher education establishments, both military and civilian, establishing partnerships in the field of teaching and research, contributing to bring people and institutions together.
The IUM Internationalization strategy is based on 5 Lines of Action (LA).
LA 1. Student Mobility –To foster partnerships with international institutions so that military personnel from the three branches of the Armed Forces and the Republican National Guard can have a wither training offer. Besides, to the existing training offer at IUM, to implement English language teaching as a means to attract international students.
LA 2. Teacher Mobility – To allow teachers to exchange knowledge and experience with peers from other countries. The current strategy is to develop partnerships with similar institutions in friendly and allied countries. The mobility of teachers also makes it possible to increase the visibility and projection of the IUM as a teaching centre of excellence.
LA 3. International Research Partnerships – To participate in research programs of interest to IUM, in partnership with reputable foreign institutions, to be culturally aware of differences and/or similarities among institutions
LA 4. International Affirmation – To Participate and promote academic activities, as an effective member of the International Society of Military Sciences, enhancing the visibility and international affirmation of the IUM among foreign counterparts.
LA 5. Military-Technical Cooperation – To continue Military-Technical Cooperation with Portuguese speaking countries increasing teaching capabilities by the supported entity, affirming the role of IUM in support and advice.
