INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE NORTH ATLANTIC SECURITY AND DEFENSE STRATEGY (NASDS) 2022

On May 19th and 20th of 2022, at the Military University Institute (Lisbon), took place the international conference North Atlantic Security and Defense Strategy (NASDS), attended by scholars, experts and practitioners from 15 countries: Portugal, Spain, Italy, India, United States, Romania, Poland, Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Greenland, Ukraine, Estonia, Hungary and Brazil.

The Military University Institute – Research and Development Center/General Staff of the Armed Forces (Portugal), in cooperation with the Institute of International and European Law of Reykjavik University (Iceland) and the Center for Security Policy of the Norwegian Institute for Defense Studies (Norway), organized the conference, for which received funding through the EEA Grants from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.

The conference is part of a larger research project that aims to investigate the issues related to the security and defense of maritime space and sea routes from the Arctic Ocean to the North Atlantic, including the control of search and rescue areas.

Overall, the proposals of this initiative contain a high level of novelty able to broaden the debate on the topics of the conference, in a holistic, interdisciplinary approach, that includes theoretical frameworks and research methods from various sciences, e.g.: history, political science, sociology, law, economy, military and security science.
